BTW, the discussuon you had with us was due to the rider apparently telling someone he was 12 in which he could not run the low 4's. If he is 13 he is allowed to run low 4's, however we did not have the discussion about running in an adult class or holding a record. You entered him in the adult class and we were not informed until after the race was over.

Well it's time for me to say something. THE JOCKEY you are talking about is 13 year old Travis Collins born September 20, 1998 is 5'4" 116 Lbs from Raeford, NC if you need to know.I am his dad Josh.Personally I think that this was not handled right. I think it sucks that such a talented young man is being denied his accomplishment. It's hard to explain to him why he can not run heads up in the adult classes when he is just as talented and as capable as any rider there but I do know this: this young man rode 9 and a half hours one way to do something, did it, to only come home and have it taken away.

one other thing I would like to thank all racers in North Carolina for not discriminating against my little man simply because of his age. He knows that he can go to any track in NC and get a good heads up race on any good weekend.

i was not there but based on what has been said, he cannot hold a record if he is not old enough. It sounds like he was allowed to race by mistake. It wasnt caught until later and clarification was made to the rules. Most would have understood the rules as they were before but apparently not everyone. As stated, this is a new association working out the bugs. They are here to grow the sport, not the other way around. Its not discrimination at all, and that is a very poor card to play in the matter. You NC guys will have another opportunity in August so now that everyone is on the same page, you guys shouldnt have a problem setting the record with someone who is old enough.
cheers happy

I may be stepping out of line but I have to respectfuly agree with the pro sand drag decision to enforce an age limit restriction. Seeing this young man ride, I agree he is a talented rider. However, like with other organizations you must meet certain criteria to meet eligibility. Nascar has an age limit. Sure there are very talented kart drivers out there but this doesn't mean they should be on the track with Jeff Gordon. I truely don't believe your son was discriminated against. I understand that there may have been a misunderstanding with the clarity of the rules but please be assured they made this rule for the safety of your son, other racers, and the reputation of the sport.

We all understand why there's rules and we all want the sport to grow. The main discussion here is why would a record not count after the race when it was made clear at the track that the jockey was legal to set a record. As far as the rest of the races having an age limit to set records I totally agree with that, but I fill this record should stand. There were other young riders there running faster than the rules allowed in adult classes. I guess its ok as long as they dont set a record?

This debate is the same as.....Should a baseball players home run record be disqualified if it is later discovered they used steroids?

Some say yes... Some say no.

Your bike obviously isn't a one hit wonder... Do it again in august with an older jockey and your set.

Who checked the rules? Obviously whomever took the entry made a mistake. So did the guy that tried and succeeded at entering an ineligable rider knowing so. Equally irresponsible

In defense of the track I'm sure shawn signed up the jockey to ride and with over 100 riders there they didn't know the name from many others. Again, we will improve this process, just hate to make it to burdensome on the already time consuming registration process. But, if we have to we have to.

Was the 16 year old age limit to set a record in writing before the race, or was added after the race?
